MPGL enters Season 4 with $16,000 prize pool

Posted by Dexter "kurtcos" F 27 days ago

Renowned for being the "G-League" of the Philippines, the Mineski Pro-Gaming League (MPGL) is proud to announce the beginning of its fourth season sponsored by Gigabyte and organized by Mineski - a $16,000 prizepool awaits all its Filipino participants.

A message from The Director (excerpt)

Today marks another new and exciting year for e-sports, as we once again host together with our official partner Gigabyte and our official gaming gear Razer the yearly Mineski Pro-Gaming League.

G-MPGL will still send representatives to SMM 2012, as we have done so for the past 2 years. The performance of last year's PH representative: MI.PColor, placing 3rd on SMM 2011 is proof that this simple 10-month league truly has helped PH teams grow stronger as they prepare to face their international counterparts.

I'm sure everyone is excited to see this event once again. So in behalf of the whole Mineski Organization and Mineski Events Team we welcome you to GMPGL 2012!

The new season will follow the classic points system adopted by previous seasons along with a class S/A system that separates the Filipino scene into tiers allowing for fair competition. Adding to that, special awards will also be given to the 'Captain of the Year', 'Carry of the Year' and 'Farmer of the Year', among other titles.

Running from February 2012 to late October, expect to see teams such as Mineski.PColor and TheNet.Execration battle it out for top dollar and the chance to represent Philippines at this year's SMM Grand National.

For more information on the specific dates of each event and their respective prize pools, visit the official announcement by Mineski.net.

@#22
SMM last year had issues with their sponsors.. They already made an early contract for the computers that will be used that time around April.. But sad to say, about 2 weeks before the SMM, their sponsors backed out due to the flooding on Thailand which the sponsors are from.. With no other sponsors able to provide them with the necessary computer set, they rent nearby computer cafe computers.. So that's why they had blue screens and issues.. Hope this wont happen again..

Good luck to all teams.. GL HF..

The Ph scene should focus more on DOTA 2, instead of spending prize pools in DOTA 1, because we all know that DOTA 2 keeps on getting bigger and bigger. while DOTA 1 keeps on sinking. In just couple of months DOTA 1 would be dead and DOTA 2 will be on the spotlight.. hmmm. well, I hope Rhome will do something about this, anyway In RHOME I trust. haha

#33 rk_mag 25 days ago
DOTA 2 will also be featured in this tourney... but DOTA, i noticed, is the main feature.. prbbly because most Pinoy doesnt have a DOTA 2 game yet.. so atm, the organizers feed their participant's battle hunger with DOTA..

So Mineski is getting $16,000 in a few days?
Or there are other teams challenging for it?

#35 vrvink 25 days ago
#32 lol only WHEN!! china turns to dota 2 and PH will follow, mski is up for the challenge we all know dota1 dominated by china.. they have a dream and thats something yet for them to prove in dota1 kinda impossible but not the same as EU who just turn their backs to that challenge and focus on dota2 instead, there is a time for dota2 thats when the game is stable but not now i still believes that compitation in dota1 is still the better thatn dota2, dota2 maybe in EU..

and if MPGL will be played in dota2 we all know not all has the beta keys think about hundreds of teams joining this event.. and MPGL host dota2 also btw but not the main event..

thanks to mineski bcuz of them ESPORTS in PH rocks!!!

Impressive prize pool to say. $16,000 is equivalent to roughly P688,000. Wondering where Mineski got the money, is it from SMM?

Adding to that, special awards will also be given to the 'Captain of the Year', 'Carry of the Year' and 'Farmer of the Year'

IMO it's stupid to even think about a 'Farmer of the Year' award. it's like bluntly saying 'Player Who Does Nothing To Help The Team But Just Farms Creeps' award. It should just be one with 'Carry of the Year' since Carry Heroes are synonymous with heavy farm anyway.

'Support of the Year' should be given more focus instead.

GG called Number 8th seeded team defeated the 1st seeded team... Revitalize defeated MI and becoming the first GMPGL 2012 champion, the score is 2-0 twice to beat advantage by MI.... It was a close match till the end but Revitalize has too many disables, hex, stun, eul's, ethereal blade, etc that MI didn't counter... Julz biggest mistake is not buying BKB countering the disables instead he goes for MKB... I guess MI focused too much on dps while Revitalize countered with disables... Congratz Revitalize for an upset win beating MI twice in the finals... I think MI bit underestimated Revitalize causing them the game beating them at ease in the early stages but Revitalize adopted and countered MI gaming style by using too many disables... Santino new face in PH dota
